How will my cleaning service gain access to my home?
Most cleaners will want a key or garage door code to gain access to your home. This makes it easier for you and your cleaner: you don't have to worry about leaving your house unlocked and your cleaners won't be locked out of a scheduled cleaning.

Who provides cleaning products, supplies and equipment?
Most cleaning services will provide everything needed to complete the job. If you are required to provide any of these items, make sure this is reflected in the price. It is always a good idea to have a quality vacuum cleaner available.

What if I would like a specific product used instead of what the service offers?
Good cleaning services will always use your favorite product (you will probably have to supply it).

Do cleaning services make beds?
Most cleaning services won't offer this as it is generally considered daily cleaning, but you may request it.

Do cleaning services do dishes or laundry?
Dishes and laundry are considered daily jobs by most services and probably wouldn't be done unless requested.

Do cleaning services wash windows?
Smudges on the inside of windows from pets and fingers should be included as part of any cleaning routine. However, full-scale window cleaning is a highly specialized task and Dazzle recommends that a reputable window cleaner be hired. They will save you money in the long run!

Do cleaning services empty garbage?
This will vary from cleaner to cleaner, so make sure to ask, but keep in mind most clients empty trash on trash day and it will take time away from cleaning.

Wouldn't I save money by having the service come only once a month?
This is a common misconception. Simply put, it takes about twice as long to clean old dirt as it does to clean new dirt, so it won't save you any money. Experience has shown that bi-weekly cleanings maintain an adequate level of general cleanliness for you, your family and visitors.

Can someone be home while my house is being cleaned?
A cleaner should never have a problem with you being home during a cleaning, however keep in mind it’s always faster and more efficient to have outside influences kept to a minimum. You’ll also discover that you don’t like having someone “underfoot” while you're home. Most clients are working or schedule their errands during cleaning time.

Can I request odd jobs to be done?
Most services will appreciate the opportunity to do extra work as this, of course, means they can earn extra money. Be sure to ask in advance so they can plan the extra time needed and you can agree on the price.

What if I need to change my scheduled cleaning days or times?
Most cleaning services schedule their clients based on geographic location, so good cleaning services will try to accommodate you.

When and how will I make payment?
Most services will appreciate you leaving a check in an envelope with any notes written on the outside and leave it on the kitchen counter each time the cleaners are expected. Others may use a billing method.

What if I forget to leave a check on cleaining day?
A reputable service will clean anyway but will expect payment be mailed the same day. If payment isn’t received by the following scheduled cleaning, they may cancel the appointment.

Do I really have to pick up the house before the cleaners come?
Clients often joke among themselves about this (“I have to clean up for the cleaner?!”). But it’s true; preparations should be made for the arrival of your cleaning service. A cleaner can’t be expected to clean something if they can’t get to its surface easily. This means removing clutter such as dirty dishes, tubes of toothpaste, laundry on the floor, etc.

What if I forget its cleaning day and don’t pick up clutter/dishes, etc.?
If the clutter is minimal the housecleaner may stay and do what they can. However, you’ll need to be more flexible with the end result. They may not be able to clean at all if they feel they will be spending too much time “picking up” (Most services will expect full payment in this event). You should discuss this ahead of time if you feel it may be a likely occurrence.

What can I do ahead of time in order to save the cleaner time and me money?
Most clients are willing to do anything that will save them money in the long run. These things include removing all throw rugs from the floors and either shaking or washing, putting items in the dishwasher that will fit: i.e. lids from kitchen canisters, coffee pot parts, stove burners and knobs etc., removing everything from tubs and showers such as bath toys, shampoo products, soap, towels etc.

What if I would like to choose only certain areas of my home to be cleaned?
This should never be problem with any cleaning service, especially if they charge by the hour. However most will have a two hour minimum.

What if the cleaning service finishes sooner or needs to stay longer to get the job done?
In most cases it’s a wash in the end. Some cleanings take longer then others depending on things such as parties, vacations etc. If finishing early happens on a regular basis, a reputable service will decrease your fee to reflect this. At the same time, if they are finding they are spending extra time consistently to do the job, they may request more time from you.

What if no cleaners show up on my scheduled cleaning day?
Unforeseen circumstances arise from time to time. A reputable cleaning service will call ahead to arrange an alternate time. Make sure you ask what your services policy is regarding this.

What if the cleaning service needs to cancel a scheduled cleaning?
Most reputable services will give two weeks notice if they need to cancel a cleaning entirely, but most will simply call and reschedule.

If the cleaners break something, who pays for it?
This policy varies widely among cleaning services. Ask your service for their specific policy. In most cases, Dazzle will pay for breakage, but each incidence is handled according to its specific circumstances.

Who does the cleaning service technically work for?
Most services (including Dazzle Cleaning Service) are independent contractors who report all income and pay taxes on that income. No one is your employee, so you don’t have to worry about withholding taxes, insurance etc.

Do I need to supply drinks/food for the cleaning team?
No reputable service would expect this. Many Dazzle clients do leave treats, but it’s never expected and always appreciated!

What if I’m not happy with the cleaning results?
Call the office right away! Never put it off until the next cleaning. A reputable service will return as soon as possible and correct the problem right away.

What if I don’t like the day you clean in my neighborhood?
It is most efficient for services to clean homes in one area of town on the same day. If the day is important to you, bring this up right away so an agreement can be reached.

Do I tip the cleaning team?
Housecleaners do perform a personal service just as hairdressers or waiters do, so tipping is appropriate, but only when deserved! It should never be expected.

What types of things will increase my cleaning estimate?
Many things may increase an estimate, here are just a few: older homes, large family with children and pets, multi-story homes, rooms that are small but full, clutter throughout the home, large collections of knickknacks, glass shower doors, dark colored appliances and carpet, throw rugs, glass shelves/tables, stairs, and grouted tile.

What types of things will decrease my cleaning estimate?
Again, several things, but here are a few: only working adults living in the home, newer home, wall to wall carpet in bath and kitchen, sparsely furnished homes, guest bathrooms/bedrooms, shower curtains instead of doors.

What is meant by weekly/biweekly cleaning?
Dazzle Cleaning Service (and most other cleaning services) believe there are 3 types of cleaning: First is daily cleaning such as dishes/laundry/trash/clutter control. The second type is weekly/bi-weekly cleaning which would include a light cleaning of the home including kitchen, bathrooms, dusting and vacuuming. The final type of cleaning would be in the category of yearly or spring cleaning. The types of jobs in this category include cleaning the refrigerator/oven/cupboards inside or out, washing walls/ceilings and molding, stripping wax from floors etc.

What can I do to make the housecleaners comfortable?
A comfortable temperature is very much appreciated by most cleaners and will net a much better cleaning for you and your family. Most cleaners are not in any one home long enough to adjust the thermostat to a comfortable level before they are done cleaning, so having it done ahead of time is always appreciated. Obviously, the cleaner should restore the thermostat to your liking before they leave your home.

Will the cleaning service do any “spring cleaning” type jobs for me?
Yearly cleaning jobs should be an option for any cleaning service provided it’s discussed ahead of time. Adjustments to schedules and fees need to be made.

What is the best way to motivate housecleaners?
Positive motivation is always the most successful. Be prepared and organized for the cleaners on cleaning day, don’t make them clean around chaos. Let the cleaners know how important their work is to you and your family. If you are constantly saying negative things to them or directing them in some way, it may be time to find a new cleaning service. Establish and sustain rapport by leaving them notes each and every time, not only when you have complaints or special requests.
